Letter Decoder. Understand the letter in front of you.
Letter Decoder is an iPhone app that explains supported official letters in plain language, in English or Spanish. Photograph the pages you received, review what the app found, and keep unlocked results in one place.
How it works
From the pages you received to a clearer explanation.
-
01
Photograph the pages
Take a photo of each page, up to eight pages per letter. Include every page you have. A clear, flat, well-lit page is easiest to read.
-
02
Review the preview
When the app can explain the document, it shows a preview of what it found, such as how many dates, amounts, and action steps it identified. It may instead ask you to retake a page, or tell you it can't explain that kind of document.
-
03
Unlock the full result
Use one credit to unlock the full explanation: the dates, amounts, and steps found in the pages you provided. Buying credits and unlocking require Sign in with Apple.
-
04
Come back to it later
Unlocked results are saved in Your letters, so you can reopen them without using another credit.
Before you rely on a result
What to know
- It covers only the pages you scan. The app reads up to eight pages per letter. If your document is longer, or a page is missing, the result can't include what wasn't scanned, and the app may not be able to tell that a page is missing.
- It can make mistakes. Results are produced automatically, with the help of AI, and can misread or leave out details. Check dates, amounts, and instructions against the original.
- Conflicting details are flagged, not resolved. If a letter shows different dates for the same thing, the app points that out instead of choosing one. Check the original or contact the sender.
- Not every document is supported. The app explains certain types of official letters. If a document is outside what it supports, it says so instead of guessing, and you aren't charged.
- It explains; it doesn't verify. The app can't confirm that a letter is genuine, that the sender is who they say they are, or that the information in the letter is correct. If you're unsure, contact the sender using contact details you find yourself, not only those printed on the letter.
- It isn't professional advice. Results are general information, not legal, tax, immigration, or financial advice. For important decisions, talk to a qualified professional.
- English and Spanish. The app and its results are available in English and Spanish.
